Tidy Towns
The Association is proud to support any initiative which seeks to improve the quality of the local environment,
and encourages all residents to participate in this cause. In Terenure this activity is co-ordinated by the Terenure Tidy Towns Group,
an I Love Terenure 2030 group. Please see their
Facebook page for more information.
There are 2 separate competitions promoting a cleaner urban environment:
The National Tidy Towns Competition
This is organised by the Department of Rural and Community Development with the support of the main sponsor SuperValu and many other agencies. The National Tidy Towns Competition involves participating areas being rated on all aspects of their local environment and prizes awarded to the best under many different categories. The overall winner is "Ireland's Tidiest Town", which is announced at a national ceremony in September each year.
Entry for this competition for the whole of Terenure is organised by the Terenure Tidy Towns Group. We have in the past won awards for the Dublin South region, but have yet to feature on the main award winners' list...
The Dublin City Neighbourhoods Competition
The annual Dublin City Neighbourhood Awards are organised by Dublin City Council and have categories related to size and nature of areas. There are separate competitions for each of the Council's five administrative areas with the category winners from each going forward to an all city final. The Terenure Residents' Association enters in the category of "residential area over 300 houses" in the Dublin South East area (previously South Central area until 2014).
We won 1st prize in 2009 in our category for the Dublin South Central area but unfortunately did not feature in the city-wide final. Since then we have twice received commendations within our area, but no prizes.
